The Serie A runs over the usual 2 days of Saturday and Sunday this week but before previewing the action some major news. Claudio Raneri was finally sacked as Inter manager on Tuesday, the former Roma & Chelsea boss had led the Nerazzurri through a disappointing campaign and leaves them 8th in the table and out of The Champions League. Pressure on the Italian had been building for several weeks as Inter's form once again dropped. The feeling within Milan is one of confusion as to why, with the class of player Raneri had at his disposal he could not deliver results. Raneri's replacement was announced on Wednesday and is a little bit of a surprise, Andrea Stramaccioni, Inter's youth team coach will now take charge of the senior side. Stramaccioni is well thought of within Inter but he is unproven at this level, many fans will be asking why Andre Villas Boas or Fabio Capello were not considered. Stramaccioni has promised to give the youth a chance in the first team, which is a risky tactic but one that might working given the current Inter squad is ageing and not performing. There appears to be a gradual change in how managers are chosen in Italian football. It seems there is a leaning towards the Spanish way of doing things, constructing sides from the youth team, lead by someone who knows the club inside out. We have seen it with Roma and Luis Enrique's "Five Year Plan" and now Inter appear to want to take a similar root. The major issue that faces this new breed of manager is that unlike in Spain the top 10 clubs in Italy demand success and demand it immediately. The fans of Italian clubs are the most demanding in the world and this shift in philosophy will have to have a dramatic and immediate effect if managers hope to keep their jobs. The old saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" holds no weight with Italian football fans.
The action this weekend begins on Saturday evening as Inter's great rivals AC Milan travel to Catania. Catania are having a superb season, the club from Sicily currently sit 7th in the table in between two giants of the game in Roma and Inter. They are holding their form well, unbeaten in 7 including a 2-2 draw with Napoli last weekend in which they lead for 80 minutes until Edison Cavani saved Napoli. It is at home Catania have picked up most of their points, losing just twice all season. The visit of Milan however is sure to test this record Massimiliano Allegri's side are top of the league and unbeaten in 8 after coming from a goal behind to beat Roma 2-1 last weekend. The major concern with Milan is their second leg Champions League quarter final against Barcelona on Tuesday, could they lose concentration? It took a incredible defencive effort from Milan to hold Barcelona to a 0-0 on Wednesday and Allegri is sure to shuffle his pack but Catania will be thinking this is the best time to play Milan. That said the class of squad Milan have is the reason they are top of the league and should have enough to beat Catania, as mentioned the only reservation is the Champions league distraction. Away win - Narrow victory for Milan as they put in a professional shift.
Saturday's only other game sees Parma host Lazio. Parma are in crisis, sitting just 5 points above the relegation zone, they haven't won in 8 games and could only manage a 2-2 draw with bottom club Cesena last weekend. They are in desperate need of a good result to make sure they are not drawn deeper into a relegation battle. Lazio managed their first win in 2 games with an unconvincing 1-0 victory of Cagliari last weekend. They remain in third, 3 points clear of Napoli and need to hit form to secure third place and Champions League football. The suspicion here is that both teams can score goals but are not secure at the back, with that in mind it may come down to who has the best defence, on paper that's certainly Lazio and they get the vote to take all 3 points back to the capital. Away Win - Parma's poor run continues as Lazio look to cement third spot.
The first of eight matches on Sunday sees Roma host Novara. Roma did look to be hitting form before their defencive frailties resurfaced and were defeated 2-1 by AC Milan. Luis Enrique's men have indifferent form with 2 wins in their last five games although this represents a much easier task than Milan in the San Siro or the Rome derby. Novara's mini surge came to a halt last weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw with Leece that sees them remain 8 points from safety. This should be routine for Roma if they can produce the attacking flair we know they can and Novara's lack of goals means the Roma defence may get an easy afternoon. Pablo Daniel Osvaldo's first goal for Roma after returning from injury and suspension last weekend will surely help confidence and expect him to be on the score sheet again here. Home Win - Novara haven't won in Rome since 1940 and that is unlikely to change here.
A mid table clash sees Bologna host Palermo with both sides looking to finish the season in a good manner. Bologna suffered their first defeat in 4 as they were beaten 2-0 by Atalanta last weekend as Palermo were held to a 1-1 draw with Udinese. Palermo now haven't won in 5 matches. The two teams league positions reflect their inconsistencies and thus makes this a very difficult game to call. Both sides are capable of scoring goals with Bologna's Di Vaio and Palermo's Miccoli having great seasons and defensively both teams are far from secure so expect goals. Bologna might just have enough, particularly with home advantage but Palermo have had some great results this season and always pose a threat when on song. Draw - two inconsistent teams share the spoils.
Another mid table bout sees Cagliari host Atalanta as the home side look to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat last weekend. Cagliari's 1-0 defeat to Lazio saw them remain in 13th but with just one win from their last 5 games. Atalanta meanwhile continued their pursuit of a Europa League place with a 2-0 win over Bologna, Stefano Colantuono's side have now not lost in 8 games. Atalanta will be without top scorer German Dennis through injury but they still pose enough of an attacking threat to cause Cagliari problems. Cagliari are themselves good going forward but against a defence that has conceded just twice in its last 5 games they are set to struggle. Away win - Atalanta overcome Cagliari with a solid defencive display.
Udinese travel to Siena looking for their first league win in 4 games. There was a time earlier in the season where it was widely thought Udinese would push for title but a poor run has seen them drop points and they are now 15 points behind leaders Milan and are scrambling for a Champions League place, last weekends 1-1 draw with Palermo was another disappointing result. They are however facing a Siena side on a poor run of their own, a 1-1 draw with Chievo last weekend means that Siena are without a win in 3 and are in need of a few more points to ensure Serie A football next season. There is little doubt that Udinese are capable of winning this game but their lack of clean sheets is alarming and Siena are strong at home. Draw - Siena frustrate Udinese in a low scoring draw.
Inter face Genoa in what is Andrea Stramaccioni first game in charge of Inter. Inter haven't won a league game in 7 attempts and a poor 0-0 draw against Atalanta last weekend sealed the fate of Claudio Raneri. It would be wrong to suggest that all Inter's problems stem from Raneri but a change of manager normally results in a 'honeymoon period' where results and performances are improve. Stramaccioni could have wished for an easier assignment for his first match but Genoa who have had some great results this season are on a bad run. A 2-2 draw against Fiorentina last weekend means that Genoa have drawn for of their last 5, losing the other. They score plenty of goals but let in plenty too which may aid a struggling Inter forward line. Expect Inter to be tested but the new manager factor is sure to give the players and fans a boost and they are taken to win this one. Home win - Stramaccioni's Inter reign begins with a win.
Fiorentina host Chievo with both sides looking for their first wins in 4 games. Fiorentina managed a 2-2 draw with Genoa last weekend while Chievo drew 1-1 with Siena. Fiorentina will be desperate for points to ensure they are not dragged into a relegation battle whereas Chievo are almost certainly safe. With that in mind and Fiorentina having home advantage everything points to a home win but Chievo are a decent outfit, capable of scoring goals and keeping teams at bay. Fiorentina main issue all season has been their defence and the likes of Pellisier are sure to test them. Its certainly the hardest game to call this weekend and a draw is the safest option. Draw - A result that satisfies neither side but is the most likely outcome.
A bottom of the table battle sees third from bottom Leece host bottom club Cesena. Leece continue to try and escape the relegation zone with their gutsy performances but they haven't won in 4 games including a 0-0 draw with fellow struggerlers Novara last weekend. Cesena managed a good 2-2 draw with Parma last weekend but they continue to struggle, the fact they've only won 4 games all season tells the story. Its simply impossible to back Cesena to win anything at the moment and although they put in a good performance against Parma, they were at home. Away from home Cesena away from home have played 15 and lost 12. With Leece still battling and Cesena becoming more and more of a hopeless cause its not difficult to go for a home win here. Home win - Leece keep the pressure on those above and all but mathematically relegate Cesena.
The final game of the weekend sees title hunting Juventus host Napoli in what is the game of the weekend. Juventus have recaptured goal scoring form, scoring 7 in their last 2 including a 2-0 win over Inter last weekend. They remain unbeaten but remain 4 points behind AC Milan at the top. Napoli meanwhile have struggled since their Champions League exit to Chelsea and it took two late goals from Cavani last weekend to gain just a point against Catania. The key to this one has to be the defence of each team, Juventus arguably the stronger and they could stem the flow of Napoli's attacking line that we all know is one of the best in the league. It could easily turn into a classic with goals flowing for both teams but the more likely outcome is Juve shut Napoli out and just edge it. The lure of the title is sure to make the Juve players give that extra percent, a motivation Napoli lack. Home win - Juve remain unbeaten and keep the heat on Milan, Napoli continue to lack confidence.

Match week 28 Preview - Saturday to Sunday Games
The Serie A runs over just two days this week with 2 games on Saturday evening with the remaining 8 being played on Sunday afternoon. Saturday sees AC Milan host Roma and Udinese travel to Palermo.
Milan appear to be easing towards the title another seemingly routine 2-0 win last weekend over Parma means that Massimiliano Allegri's side have won 5 of their last 7 in the league, drawing the other two. They remain 4 points clear of Juventus and can call on the best attacking line in the league and the leagues top scorer in Zlatan Ibrahimovic to help them secure their place at the top. Their record particularly at home against Roma is not great, losing four of the last five. Although they did defeat Roma 3-2 in the reverse fixture in Rome. Roma as we have seen by their inconsistency are a team in transition, the '5 Year Plan' laid out by Luis Enrique is sure to test the patience of Roma's fans who always demand success. However if recent results are anything to go by it would appear the plan is in full flow, a 1-0 win over Genoa was their second on the bounce and they have now won 3 of the last 5. The great concern however is Roma's record against the teams above them this season, and with the greatest respect to Genoa they do not possess the attacking flare of Milan to truly test the make shift defence of Roma's. Roma have the attacking prowess to give Milan a game but they lack the defensive cohesion their opponents possess. That will be the difference here. Home Win, The Milan bandwagon rolls on, though expect them to be tested.
Udinese will be desperate to return to winning ways when they travel to Palermo. The hosts themselves haven't won in 4 but Udinese who threw away a two goal lead against Napoli on Sunday which meant they haven't won in 7 games and considering were each are in the table, Udinese's need is greater. Palermo's 1-1 draw at 3rd bottom Leece meant that they stayed stuck in mid table, 10th. Udinese now lie 5th after their draw with Napoli and will have to find form soon if they are too reach a Champions League place. Luckily for Francesco Guidolin's side they have won all of the last 4 meetings between the sides, so this looks a perfect opportunity to return to winning ways. Palermo are shipping goals, 10 in their last 4 games and with Udinese possessing Antonio Di Natale, the leagues second top scorer there is a sure chance that Udinese will at least score. Udinese's away form is far from inspiring at the moment but the possess enough up front to take this. Away win, Udinese get back on track.
The first of Sunday's games sees Atalanta host Bologna. Atalanta are proving very hard to beat of late, unbeaten in 7 but drawing their last 3, including a 0-0 with Inter last weekend. Their opponets too managed a draw last weekend a 2-2 with Chievo and it would be no surprise to see another draw here. Atalanta are solid defensively but don't score enough, in comparison Bologna regularly find the net but can't keep the opposition out. Home advantage might be enough to see an Atalanta win but by far the safest option is another low scoring draw. Draw - Two mid table teams share the spoils.
Cesena now look all but relegated at the foot of the Serie A table after another loss last weekend, 3-0 at Cagliari. Cesena have now not won in 10, and have lost eight of those games, they remain 14 points from safety. They host Parma who will be looking to get away from the relegation zone, after a 2-0 at home to AC Milan left them just 5 points from the drop zone. Parma haven't won in 7 games but they couldn't wish for a better opportunity to end that run than this against a side who's confidence must be near non existant. Away win, Parma stop the rot and heap more misery on Cesena.
A vital relegation clash sees Novara face Leece. Novara are taking everyone by surprise of late, winning two on the bounce after beating Siena 2-0 last weekend which followed a 1-0 win over Udinese. The reappointment of Attilio Tesser as coach as certainly had a impact and his team have given themselves a real chance of avoiding the drop if they can keep picking up points, and this is certainly a must win game against the team that sit 3 points above them and 3 places from the bottom of the league. They face a Leece side however who themselves are determined to avoid the drop, a decent 1-1 draw with Palermo last weekend meant that they have lost just once in 5 games, despite this they remain 5 points from safety. It is always difficult to predict how these games will go, Novara still don't score enough and Leece can't keep clean sheet. Be no surprise to see either win but sitting on the fence is the safer option. Draw - two of the leagues poorest sides play out a poor low scoring draw.
Genoa host Fiorentina with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats last week. Genoa were beaten 1-0 by Roma, wheres Fiorentina felt the full force of Juventus' attacking prowess losing 5-0. Both teams form is poor, though are unlikely to be drawn into a relegation battle. Genoa haven't won in 5, though have drawn 3 of those games. Fiorentina have just one win in 5 and have lost their last two. The key to this one might be home advantage with Fiorentina having one just once away from home all season, their lack of goals is also cause for alarm. Genoa have the worst defence in the league but the goals of Rodrigo Palacio have ensured they won't fall further down the league. Very tricky but Genoa's home advantage might just see them take all 3 points. Home win - Goals win games as the saying goes and Genoa are likely to score more then Fiorentina here.
Siena will be looking to ensure they don't get involved in a relegation scrap when they travel to Verona to face Chievo. Chievo haven't won in 3 including a 2-2 draw with Bologna last weekend though they remain comfortably in 11th. Siena's mini revival which saw them move away from the relegation zone ended with a 2-0 defeat to Novara last weekend. The Tuscans are six points above the drop zone. The concern at this stage of the season is those teams in mid table are effectively playing for pride and not scrapping for their lives near the bottom this could be the case here and with Chievo having such a poor record against Siena it would be no surprise to see Siena bounce back. Chievo have one just once in the last 7 meetings between the sides and that coupled with a lack of motivation should see Siena win. Away win, Siena's need for points sees them through as they take a big leap to securing top flight football for next season.
Lazio host Cagliari in a bid to secure third place after a two poor results. Last weekend saw Giovanni Lopez's men lose 1-0 to Catania meaning they have lost 3 of their last five games. Cagliari gained their first win in three matches with a 3-0 win over Cesena, all but securing their place in the Serie A for next season. Much like their city rivals Roma, Lazio undoubtedly have a talented squad but lack consistency. With that in mind it is likely at some juncture, especially at home that they will return to form. Cagliari's latest win has to be taken in the context that it was against a side bottom of the league furthermore Cagliari were beaten 6-3 by Napoli a fortnight ago. This represents a tough task for Cagliari and Lazio are taken to bounce back. Home win - Home advantage pays dividends as Lazio find their feet once more.
Napoli take on Catania in Naples looking to mount a last push for Champions League football next season. Last Sunday Napoli were 2-0 down against Udinese with ten minutes remaining until Edison Cavani arrived off the bench to score twice and grab his team a point. Napoli are yet to lose at home in 2012 and haven't lost any of their last 8 games. Catania remain in eighth and in good form after beating Lazio 1-0 last weekend. They are unbeaten in 6, games winning five of them. Catania also beat Napoli 2-1 earlier in the season. Again though home advantage counts for a lot in the Serie A and Napoli are imperious at the Stadio Fruli. With the strength of Catania's defence don't expect vintage Napoli attacking flare, but expect them to have enough class to see them through. Home win - Napoli's great home form continues.
Arguably the game of the weekend finishes off this round of games as unbeaten Juventus take on a shakey Inter. Juve's 5-0 win over Fiorentina last weekend is just what Antonio Conte would have wished for after seeing his side draw their previous three games. The defensive might of The Old Lady has never been in question this season but their inability to score goals is the reason they sit 4 points behind leaders Milan, with last weekends result they will be hoping they have turned a corner. Inter meanwhile continue to be overall, poor. Another substandard result a 0-0 with Atlanta last weekend caused the board to yet again issue a statement to show confidence in manager Claudio Raneri. History will tell us that such actions normally means a managers days are numbered. Inter have only one once in the last 11 games, and currently sit in 7th which is simply unacceptable, particularly when they look at their cross city rivals strolling towards the league title. It is unlikely Raneri will get anything to help his position here, Inter have failed to beat Juventus in the last 5 attempts, losing 3 of them. Providing that 5-0 wasn't a fluke Juve's attack will make sure of a victory as the ever solid defence keeps Inter out. Home win - Juve keep the heat on Milan and remain unbeaten.
Selected Match Betting:
Udinese, Parma, Genoa, Siena, Lazio, Napoli, Juve - All to Win : 200/1
Juve V Inter - Vucinic to Score 1st : 5/1
Genoa V Fiorentina - Genoa win 3-1 : 16/1

Match week 27 Preview - Saturday, Sunday, Monday Games
The Serie A runs over 3 days this week beginning Saturday evening and culminating on Monday evening. Saturday sees two games as Parma host AC Milan and Fiorentina host Juventus. Parma currently sit in 16th just out of trouble but they will need to start picking up points to keep away from danger. They are currently win less in 6 games, with four draws and two loses, including a 1-1 draw with Atalanta last weekend. AC Milan meanwhile have not lost in 6 games, going back to the start of February a run that has seen them pull four points clear at the top of the league. Its impossible to oppose Milan at the moment, their away form is the best in the league, they've scored more goals than anyone else and they have the leagues top scorer in Ibrahimovic. Parma look set to struggle here. Away win - Milan take another step closer to the league title.
Juventus travel to Florence knowing that they must start winning games again if they are to have any hope of catching Milan at the top of the table. Antonio Conte's team have drawn four on the bounce including a 0-0 a Genoa last weekend. Out of those four games The Old Lady have managed just three goals, a huge concern for those that follow Juve. Fiorentina could still get dragged into a relegation battle if they don't put their inconsistency behind them. The Viola have one just one of their last 5 and were beaten 1-0 by Catania on their most recent outing. They will be hopeful of gaining a point against an out of sorts Juventus. It is unlikely Juve's unbeaten record will end here but there is a strong possibility of yet another draw. That said Juve's impressive record over Fiorentina just sways me. Narrow Away Win - Juve keep the heat on Milan, just.
Sunday sees the usual host of matches, seven in all beginning with a relegation clash as Cagliari face Cesena. Cagliari were taken apart by Napoli last Friday losing 6-3, a result that saw them stay in 17th, six points off the drop. The Sardinians have now just won once in their last 5 games. Cesena suffered yet another defeat last weekend at the hands of Siena, 2-0. A result that leaves them 14 points from safety and effectively set for relegation. The glimmer of hope for Cesena is their record against Cagliari, who haven't beaten them in the previous six meetings between the sides. When the sides met earlier in the season it ended 1-1 and this looks set for a similar outcome, though Cesena could edge it. Draw - two poor sides scrap out a low scoring draw.
Catania host Lazio buoyant after their win over Fiorentina. The visitors were beaten 3-1 by Bologna last weekend and will be looking to bounce back and solidify their European place here. Vincenzo Montella's Catania are in great form, undefeated in 5 with 3 wins and 2 draws, they sit happily in 8th. Lazio remain inconsistent, unable it would appear to string back to back victories together. Given Lazio's inconsistency its difficult to say which way this will go, Lazio have a good record against Catania, but Catania are in good form and its any guess as to what Lazio side will turn up. Safe option, a draw. Draw - Catania do enough to hold Lazio.
Seina will be looking for their fourth win in a row when they host second bottom Novara. Last weekends 2-0 victory of Cesena pretty much sealed safety for Siena who are now in 14th. They face a Novara team however who are high on confidence after gaining just their fourth win of the season last weekend by beating Udinese 1-0 in last weeks biggest shock. The newly reinstated Attilio Tesser will have enjoyed his first game back in charge but expect the honeymoon to end abruptly here. Siena are very solid at home and Novara have won just once away all season. Novara also have the worst defence in the league and Siena are scoring freely at the moment. Everything points to home win. Home win - Siena bring Tesser's side back down to earth.
Inter host Atalanta in what looks an intriguing match. Inter ended their dreadful run of 7 games without a win when they beat Chievo 2-0 last Friday. Before that Claudio Raneri's was under severe pressure and although the win would have helped his cause, being dumped out of the Champions League by Marsellie on Tuesday has put the pressure back on the former Roma boss. His cause will not be helped by Wesley Snjider, the Dutch international has a thigh injury that is currently being assessed by Inter's medical team but he is expected to be out for a number of weeks. Unlike their opponents Atalanta are in great form, having not lost any of their last 5 including a 1-1 draw with Parma last weekend. The concern for Atalanta is their record against Inter is poor, having been beaten in all of the last six meetings between the sides at the San Siro. Expected this to be close but home advantage could be key to this one. Home Win - Inter overcome their troubles, just.
Leece host Palermo as they look to avoid the drop. Leece remained third from bottom after losing 2-0 to AC Milan last weekend. They remain six points from safety after just one win in their last five games. Palermo sit comfortably in mid table but are on a losing run of 3 games after defeat a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Roma last Saturday. Again home advantage is key with Leece unbeaten in 5 at home and Palermo not having won away all season. With Palermo in a rut and not playing for much, Leece are taken to win this one. Home win, Leece win a battle in war against relegation.
Bologna host Chievo in a mid table clash. Bologna are unbeaten in 3 after a great win over Lazio last weekend. Chievo's 2-0 defeat to Inter meant they have only won 2 of their last 5. Chievo have only won once at the Stadio Dall'Ara in the Serie A and will do well to better that record on Sunday. Bologna's form, home advantage and having an in form striker in Di Vaio should be too much for Cheivo. Home win - Bologna's good run continues, should be comfortable.
The game of the weekend sees Udinese host Napoli. Both teams suffered European heartbreak in the week and will be looking to bounce back here. Udinese's shock defeat to Novara last weekend means that Francesco Guidolin's haven't won in two. Napoli meanwhile are on a 5 game unbeaten run, which includes a great 6-3 win over Cagliari last weekend. Both teams are superb going forward with Antonio Di Natale of Udinese the leagues second highest goalscorer and Napoli's great attacking line of Lavettzi, Hamsik and Cavani consistently finding the back of the net its unlikely this will be 0-0. It may well be then that the game will be won by the most competent defence. In that area Napoli are superior, they boast the second best defencive record in the league away from home. Expect this to be tight as both teams look to bounce back but they will almost certainly be goals and Napoli are taken to score more and keep Udinese somewhat at bay. Away win - Napoli bounce back and keep their dream of Champions League football next season alive.
Only the one game on Monday night to close match week 27 and it concerns Roma and Genoa. Roma will be looking to build on their narrow 1-0 win away to Palermo last weekend which saw them gain just their second win in 5 games. Genoa are in similar form with no win in their last 5, although they did gain a decent 0-0 draw against Juventus last weekend. Genoa though haven't won at the Olimpico in nine attempts, again home advantage could be key. Roma will be boosted by the return of Osvaldo from suspension and their teenage wonder kid Borini is set for another start after scoring again against Palermo. Genoa look sure to test a make shift Roma defence but Roma's home record and the form of Borini suggests another narrow win for Luis Enriques side is likely. Home win - Roma's goal of European football next season is kept alive.
Selected match odds:
Roma, Napoli, Bologna, Leece, Inter, Siena, Juve & AC Milan all to win - 137/1
Udinese 1-3 Napoli Correct Score - 20/1
Roma V Genoa - Borini to score first - 4/1

Matchweek 26 Preview - Friday, Saturday, Sunday Games
The Serie A runs over 3 days this week beginning with two games on Friday evening as Napoli host Cagliari and Inter travel to Verona to face Chievo. Napoli are an a superb run of form winning 4 of their last 5, including a 2-1 win over Parma last weekend. Walter Mazzarri has is side in good order with his fantastic forward line coming back to form. Cagliari on the other hand are on a poor run, with no win in their last 5 games they sit just six points above the relegation zone. Fellow struggerlers Siena beat Cagliari 3-0 last weekend and this represents a much tougher challenge for the Sardinians. Providing Napoli don't have one eye on their game with Chelsea in midweek this should be a comftable home win. Home win, Napoli continue their push for a Champions League place.
Chievo host Inter in what could turn out to be Claudio Raneri's last game in charge Inter. Without a win in their last 8 league matches patience is wearing thin with Inter's supporters and board. A 2-2 draw with Catania last weekend meant that Inter remain 7th and their chances of Champions League football next season look slim. 7th is simply unacceptable for those who follow the Nerazzurri and with Andres Villas Boas now available Raneri's days look numbered. Raneri is certainly not helped by having to face an inform Chievo side that managed a 1-1 draw against 2nd place Juventus last week and are now unbeaten in 3. It is hard to predict an outcome with much depending on if Inter's players play to their potential, at the moment though the safe option is a draw. Draw, Chievo frustrate Inter.
Saturday sees just one game as Palermo host Roma. Palermo will be looking for their first win in 3 games after they suffered another heavy defeat last weekend as AC Milan thumped them 4-0. That was at the San Siro however and at home Palermo are a different force winning 4 out of 5. They also have a very talented striker in Fabrizio Miccoli who is set to cause problems for a make shift Roma defence. Roma remain a wounded animal after suffering a 2-1 defeat in the Rome derby last weekend. The game saw goalkeeper Steklengburg sent off after just 7 minutes for a reckless lunge. To make matters worse for Luis Enrique both Juan and Pjanjic picked up injuries that will rule them out for a number of weeks. Enrique can take hope from the performance of young Borini who again found himself on the score sheet and is sure to be a threat to the Palermo defence. Roma have now lost two on the run, losing three will see them fall further behind in the race for the last Champions League position. Another very difficult one to call, but Borini could be the key to this one and Roma might just settle for trying to outscore Palermo rather than protect a slender advantage. Away win, high scoring but Roma's young striker and their need for a win might see them take all 3 points back to the capital.
Sunday sees 8 matches in all beginning with a relegation battle as Cesena host Siena. Cesena have still only won 4 games all season but did manage a 0-0 draw with Catania last weekend. They remain second bottom 8 points behind Siena who have won their last 2 games including a great performance against Cagliari which saw them win 3-0 last Sunday. Siena have now scored 7 in their last two games. Cesena have scored haven't scored in any of their last 3 games and that could be the difference in this one. Away win, Siena continue to pull away and leave Cesena deep in trouble.
Parma travel to Atalanta looking to stave off being drawn into a relegation battle. Their hosts though are in great form, having not lost any of their last 5 and were able to gain a respectable 0-0 draw against Udinese last weekend. Parma were beaten 2-1 by Napoli last weekend before drawing 2-2 with Fiorentina in midweek. This represents no easy task for the struggling side and Atalanta's inform striker German Dennis is sure to cause problems for the Parma defence. Home win, should be a straightforward victory for Atalanta as they continue their great home form.
Leaders AC Milan will be looking to widen the gap at the top when they host 3rd from bottom Leece in the San Siro. Milan where imperious over Palermo last weekend beating them 4-0 and the mid week defeat to Arsenal is unlikely to stop them putting on a similar display here. Leece gained a good point last weekend drawing 2-2 with Genoa but this represents an altogether different task for a team that has won just one of its last 5 games. Leece also have Zlatan Ibrahmiovic to deal with, who netted a hat-trick against Palermo and looks to be in great form following his suspension. Leece will put up a fight but its unlikely they will be able to put up much resistance against a bang in form Milan side. Home win, Milan's put toward the title continues.
Milan's nearest rival to the title, Juventus travel to Genoa knowing a win is what is required to keep Milan within reach. The Old Lady remains unbeaten but they simply draw too many games, Wednesday saw them draw 1-1 with Bologna and last Saturday saw another 1-1 draw against Chievo. Genoa too have got into the habit drawing their last 2 2-2 including a 2-2 draw with Leece last weekend. Genoa currently sit 14th and in relative safety they would be happy with another point. Antonio Conte's men should have enough class to see this through if they can start scoring more goals and knowing they have to win the game that could easily happen. Away win, Juventus continue their pursuit of Inter with an attacking performance and a solid victory.
Catania host Fiorentina with both sides entering the game on the back of draws. Catania were held to 0-0 at Cesena last Wednesday whereas Fiorentina beat the same opponent 2-0 last weekend before drawing 2-2 with Parma on Wednesday. Vincenzo Montella's Catania are without a win in 2 but both those games were away from home and home advantage is a huge factor in the Serie A. That said Fiorentina are unbeaten in 2 and have stopped another slide towards the relegation zone. Another tough one to call, safe option is a draw. Draw, two teams in mid table happy to share the spoils.
Bottom club Novara have been in the news this week after a somewhat bizarre turn of events led to reinstation of Attilio Tesser as manager after Emiliano Mondonico was sacked. Tesser has already been in charge of Novara this season and was replaced by Mondonico who only lasted only 37 days. Tesser takes over a team in much a similar state as he left it in, 12 points from safety and looking sure fire to be relegated. Any hope Tesser had of having a happy return was surely quashed when he saw who is first opponents were to be, 3rd place Udinese. Udinese could only draw 0-0 with Atalanta last weekend were as the hosts were beaten 1-0 by Bologna. Udinese still have an outside chance at the league but they will need to beat teams like Novara if they are to have any hope and they are taken to do just that here. Away win, should be straightforward victory for Udinese with Di Natale sure to relish the chance to play against the worst defence in the league.
The final game of the weekend sees Lazio host Bologna. Lazio like Udinese have an outside shot at the title and did their credentials no harm by winning the Rome derby 2-1 last weekend. Bologna meanwhile remain secure in mid table after victory over Novara last weekend and a 1-1 draw with Juventus on Wednesay. Both teams have lost just one of their last 5 league games and this is set to be a cagey encounter. However home advantage and being buoyed by their derby victory Lazio are the most likely winners. Home win, Lazio keep their title hopes alive.
Selected Match Betting:
Lazio, Udinese, Juve, Milan, Roma, Napoli, Atalanta & Siena - All To Win: 134/1
Atalanta V Parma - Dennis Score 1st: 4/1
Milan V Leece - Correct Score 4-0: 9/1

Chievo host Inter in what could turn out to be Claudio Raneri's last game in charge Inter. Without a win in their last 8 league matches patience is wearing thin with Inter's supporters and board. A 2-2 draw with Catania last weekend meant that Inter remain 7th and their chances of Champions League football next season look slim. 7th is simply unacceptable for those who follow the Nerazzurri and with Andres Villas Boas now available Raneri's days look numbered.
Matchweek 25 Preview - All Weekend Fixtures
A welcome return to normality this week as the Serie A stretches over just two days, Saturday and Sunday. There are just two games on Saturday beginning with Palermo against AC Milan. Palermo ended their good run of form last weekend when they were beaten 4-1 by Siena in a shock result. Their inconsistent profile means they could bounce straight back and will take heart from their record against Milan having won all 4 of their last meetings at home against Milan. Milan were unlucky not to beat Juventus last weekend, leading 1-0 against the unbeaten Juve in the 80th minute before Matri scored from a blatantly offside position, the game ended 1-1. The result was enough to keep Milan at the top of Serie A but they are only a point above Juventus who have a game in hand. Another boost for Milan is the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who returns after serving his 3 game suspension, Pato however is again injured for the Rossoneri. This is set up to be a tight affair but after the way Palermo played last weekend and with Ibrahimovic returning for Milan, there should be only one outcome. Away win, Milan's charge toward the title continues.
Juventus will be hoping to keep the heat on Milan when they host Chievo on Saturday evening. Juve's incredbile unbeaten was able to continue last weekend against Milan as they drew 1-1. The Old Lady are now unbeaten in 24 league matches and have never lost at home to Chievo in the league. However they face a Chievo side in form, on a run of 2 straight 1-0 wins including victory over Cesena last weekend. The key to this one is can Juventus re find their goalscoring form having only scored 6 in their last 5 (3 of which came in one game) the concern for Antonio Conte is where are the goals going to come from to break a stubborn Chievo defence. The likes of Matri and Vuicinc are not firing at the moment but their quality is sure to shine through sooner or later. With that in mind Juventus should take this but expect it to be close. Home win, The Old Lady remains unbeaten.
Sunday's action begins with Parma hosting Napoli. Parma's 2-2 draw away at Genoa means that they are unbeaten in of their last 5 matches. Napoli meanwhile have rediscovered where the goal is and have won all of their last 3 including a 1-0 win over Inter last weekend. Parma's home record is impressive, unbeaten in 7 but Napoli's away form is equally good, losing just one of their last 7 games on the road. So its set up to be a cagey encounter, however something that is often overlooked could be the key here. Napoli's attack is regularly in receipt of plaudits however it has been Napoli's defence that in recent weeks has kept their title hopes alive. The performances of Cannervaro, Britos and Campagnaro has ensured that Napoli have kept 3 straight clean sheets allowing for the more creative attacking players to play with a freedom that is key to Napoli's success. With Parma struggling goals this might not be as close as some would think. Away win, Napoli's defence stays strong and the attack keeps scoring.
Third from bottom Leece could climb out of the relegation zone with victory over a struggling Genoa side. Leece's 2-1 victory over Cagliari last weekend means they are now unbeaten in 3 and are making real strides in the battle to avoid the drop. 13th placed Genoa meanwhile haven't won in 4 after their 2-2 draw with Parma. Leece have the worst defence in Serie A but they continue to score goals and against a poor Genoa defence they should at least score. That said Genoa have the ability to score goals with striker Rodrigo Palacio currently 5th in the leagues top scorers table. Another tough game to call with a draw the most likely outcome. Draw - high scoring draw.
16th placed Bologna host second bottom Novara in a bid to move away from trouble. Bologna were unbeaten in 4 before being beaten 3-1 by Udinese last weekend. Novara were beaten by the same scoreline by Catania, their first defeat in 3. Given that Novara's away form is dreadful, particularly at Bologna were they haven't won in their last 12 attempts and that Bologna face a much easier task than they did last weekend this really should be a comfortable home win. Home win - Bologna move away from trouble and keep Novara deep in it.
Udinese host Atalanta in what is set to be an intriguing contest. Udinese gained their first win in 3 after beating Bologna 3-1, managing to score for the first time in 2 games. Atlanta meanwhile provided the surprise of last weekend thumping Roma 4-1. Meaning Atalanta are now unbeaten in 4. The game also sees the battle of the 1st and 3rd top scorers in the division with Udinese's Antonio Di Natale having scored 18 goals and Atalanta's German Denis scoring 15. The game then looks certain to provide entertainment and goals, despite the sides 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Udinese are a different force at the Stadio Fruli and should take this. Home win, Udinese halt Atalanta's good run.
Fiorentina host Cesena with both teams on an awful run of form. Last weekends 1-0 defeat to Lazio means that Delio Rossi's men are just four points off the drop zone and have now not won in 3 games. Cesena's 1-0 defeat to Chievo meant they remained bottom of the table with just one point from their last 6 games and 9 points from safety. To make matters worse Cesena have never beaten Fiorentina away in the league. The fact that Cesena can't score, can't win away from home and continue to conceed goals gives The Tuscans a seemingly simple task. Home win, home advantage and history tells us that Fiorentina will win this one.
Siena did their hopes for survival no harm last weekend beating Palermo 4-1 and will look to continue their move away from the relegation zone when they host Cagliari. Cagliari were beaten 1-2 by Leece last weekend, their first defeat in 4 and will look to bounce straight back here. The Tuscans are a force at home unbeaten in 6 and that could be a big advantage here with The Sardinians without a win away from home in 5 league games. A very tight game is in prospect with both teams showing inconsistancies in recent weeks and a draw is the most safe and most likely outcome here. Draw, tight affair with both sharing the spoils.
The evening kick off sees Inter host Catania with the hosts in desperate need of a win. Inter's 1-0 loss to Napoli last weekend means Claudio Raneri's men have just a single point from their last 6 games and have failed to score in their last four. Its not the title they are playing for anymore but the final champions league place. Catania visit the San Siro in good heart after beating Novara 3-1 last weekend they are now on a run of 2 consecutive wins and sit contently 9th in the table. Catania's record at the San Siro is dreadful, without a win in 14 attempts but they are facing an Inter side in dissaray and an Inter without Wesley Snijder. It would be of little suprise to see Catania take something from the San Siro but their record along with the fact that Inter can't keep playing so badly for much longer means that a draw is the most likely outcome. Draw, low scoring affair unless Inter suddenly rediscover their game.
The game of the weekend occurs on Sunday afternoon as the 136th Rome derby takes place between Roma and Lazio. Lazio are currently 3rd in the table and managed a 1-0 victory of Fiorentina last weekend. Their city conterparts remain an enigma, a shock 4-1 defeat to Atalanta last weekend means they remain 6th in the table. Both sides have been plagued throught the season by internal troubles just a couple of weeks ago the Lazio board rejected manager Edoardo Reja resignation and he remains in charge despite the clubs exit from the Europa League. Roma's coach Luis Enrique has been struggling with the actions of his players, first Totti's out burst at Roma fans who were angry at his lack of form followed last week by Daniele De Rossi's indiscipline that cost him his envolvement in the Atalanta game, he turned up to a team meeting late. Enrique's hard line on his two biggest stars is admirable but he underestimates the impact the two have on his young side and if they both return on Sunday expect to see an entirely different Roma side even without the suspended Osvaldo. Lazio will enter the game as favourites after winning the reverse fixture 2-1 and their league position highlights how they are on paper the bettter, more experienced side. But this is the derby and anything can happen and usually does happen. The return of Roma's talismen could make all the difference. Home win - Roma's main men secure an important win for Enrique's team.
